AboutDan Dufford began piano lessons with teacher Joan Overholser at age seven upon a whim of his parents. In junior high he joined the school band as a percussionist, and continued his piano studies with Dave Clark in sunny Brandon, Florida. As a senior, he was both captain of the drumline and the jazz band pianist under director of bands Ted Hope.
After working in Florida as a professional musician for some time, Dan was ready for something bigger and headed back to his midwestern roots with a move to Chicago in 2003. He quickly began to establish his reputation as a sought after private piano teacher and excellent jazz pianist. Focusing on in-home private lessons, he has established a large clientele of students in the beautiful Chicago neighborhoods of Hyde Park and Lincoln Park, and also in the suburbs of Evanston and Wilmette. As a pianist, he works with numerous diverse musical groups around the City, and has played at such venues as the Jazz Showcase, Pete Miller's, The Knickerbocker, The Chicago Jazz Festival, Vintage Wine Bar, Braxton's, The Signature Room, the Palmer House, and the Art Institute, among many others. He is also Organist and Choirmaster at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Skokie. In 2009, he graduated with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from DePaul University. While at DePaul, he played, recorded, and toured with the famed Jazz Ensemble, and also recorded with jazz legend Phil Woods. He studied privately with Ron Perrillo, arguably the top jazz pianist in Chicago. Read more about Dan here. |
